Today’s Promise

September 24, 2021

I Am Strong and Courageous

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9

God Says You Are Strong

Today’s promise has been one of my favorite verses for many years. I can’t think of a more appropriate promise for the world we live in today.

Joshua had just taken Moses’s place as the leader of the Children of God. They had entered the promised land and were facing multiple enemies that were stronger and mightier than them. I’m sure Joshua must have thought, “What have I gotten myself into?”

Three times in verses six through nine, God tells Joshua to be strong and take courage. God says the same thing to you and me today.

Lots of Bad News

If you are like me, it’s hard to stand strong when you are faced with so much bad news. You can’t listen to the radio, watch TV, or go online without being bombarded with messages of fear and doom.

From moment-by-moment updates on the Coronavirus to social uprisings and warnings of global warming, we face so many problems we don’t know how to solve.

For most of us, our world has been turned upside down. Many of us are still working from home, and we aren’t sure where and if we should wear a mask.

It is easy for the dark shadows of fear to rise up within us with all that is going on.

God Says, Be Strong and Take Courage

In all this, God says, be strong and take courage. You may be thinking that’s easier said than done, but God gives us a word of instruction and a promise.

We can be strong and take courage because God’s word shows us how to face problems and live wisely. In verse 8, God told Joshua that he would have success if he meditated and obeyed His Word.

Maybe instead of binging on the latest Netflix series or watching the constant flow of news, you might spend a little extra time in God’s word this week. Your fear will subside, and your faith will increase.

God is With You

Second, you can be strong and courageous because God is with you. Even when you don’t know what to do next, God is right there with you. I have an older brother. When he was with me, I was never afraid. I knew that he would always come to my rescue. God promises to be with you no matter what you face or what you are going through. His presence is with you right now.

When you see all the fear and worry around you, remember, God is with you.

Look at that promise again.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9

Make these confessions.

  • I am strong and courageous.
  • I will not fear, for God is with me.
  • I walk according to the Word of God.
  • I have victory over every enemy because God fights for me.

In Jesus name,

You can be bold and take courage because God has given you His word and is with you. With God by your side, how can you be afraid?

I can’t help but smile at God’s Might. I just told myself this morning that I’m watching the last Netflix series then I’m gonna spend time reading the word. I even went to get the Bible, so I can start as soon as I’m done with the series. N just now I read your email, to find it telling me to get off Netflix binging, is too much of a coincidence. I know this is the Holy Spirit, thank you for your obedience and sending this message to me. God bless you and may we continue to praise n bless His Name.
