Today’s Promise
I Have Rivers of Living Water
John 7:38-39
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ ” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
The Promise of Living Water
As a Christian, you have the life-giving, living water Jesus promised. It overflows in your life and brings refreshment to a thirsty world.
On the last day of the feast, Jesus was watching the ceremony and celebration. At the height of the feast, the priests poured water from large jars, saying, “Lord save us and bring prosperity.” It was a reminder of the time God provided water for the children of Israel as they traveled across the wilderness. When they were in the desert, without water, God provided through a miracle.
Jesus stood and cried out above the noise of the crowd, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me.” Then He made an incredible promise of living water.
He promised that those who believed in Him would have rivers of living water flowing through them. This wasn’t the only time He had promised this living water. Once while sitting on the outside of town, He told a woman at the well that, if she asked, He would give her living water. Once she tasted this living water, she would never thirst again.
More Than a Taste
Jesus promised more than a taste of living water. He promised that living water would burst forth from their lives. Throughout the Bible, water is the symbol of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that those who believed in Him would have the Holy Spirit overflow in their lives.
We live in a thirsty world. People all around you are desperately trying to quench their thirst through everything imaginable. They try quenching their thirst through alcohol, drugs, sex, or success. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take them long to find that all these things may quench their thirst for a moment, but soon that old longing and emptiness returns.
You Have the Answer
As a believer, you have the answer right inside you. Wherever you go, you bring the life-giving flow of the Holy Spirit with you. Jesus is using you as a reviving river in a dry and desolate world.
As a believer, you have a never-ending flow of life-giving water. Allow that water to overflow into every situation, and every person you meet today.
Look at that promise again.

Make these confessions.
- I overflow with the living water of the Spirit.
- I will never thirst again.
- I bring the life-giving water to every situation and person I meet.
- I have the solution for every thirsty person I meet.

What a great confession to have during these troubled times. I’ll intentionally bring the life-giving water to those hurting from covid & the protests!
