Today’s Promise

I Have the Holy Spirit

John 16:7

But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Imagine what it would have been like to have walked with Jesus? To see Him heal the sick, raise the dead, feed the five thousand, and even walk on water. Imagine being so close to Christ that you could literally reach out and touch Him.

Now imagine the confusion the disciple’s felt when Jesus said that He as going away. Also, His going away would be to their advantage. How could His going away be better for them? They had Jesus in flesh and blood right there, how could anything be better?

The Spirit With You

Even for us, it’s hard to believe that anything could be better than seeing Jesus with our own eyes. Jesus promised that when He left, He would send the Holy Spirit. The Spirit would comfort, teach, and empower them.

At Pentecost, this promise was fulfilled. Through the Holy Spirit’s power, the disciples and early Christians would take the gospel to the then known world. Today, that promise is being fulfilled in you and me.

The Spirit in You

As a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit dwelling in You. The Holy Spirit has taken up residence in you and is teaching, leading, and empowering you.

I could spend hours talking about all the incredible things the Holy Spirit does in your life, but remember it began with this promise that Jesus would send the Holy Spirit to all who would follow Him.

What Jesus promised then, He is fulfilling in your life today.

Look at that verse again,

But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. – John 16:7

Make these confessions.

  • I have the Holy Spirit dwelling in me.
  • He is teaching me and providing all I need.
  • I have an intimate relationship with God through the Holy Spirit.
  • The Holy Spirit is empowering me to be all God has called me to be.

In Jesus name,
Amen
