Today’s Promise

Jesus Gives You Joy

“I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.”
John 17:13

True joy only comes through your relationship with Jesus Christ. He promises joy to all who follow Him.

Jesus Gives You His Joy

In the last few hours before His trial and crucifixion, Jesus prayed for His disciples and everyone who would follow Him. As followers of Christ, we can claim that prayer today.

In that prayer, Jesus prayed God would protect those who followed Him and that they would receive the full measure of His joy.

Jesus was a joyful man. He was not the pious, sorrowful person as depicted in so many films. His joyful countenance attracted individuals and crowds. I believe Jesus was the most joy-filled person who ever walked the earth.

Joy vs Happiness

There is a difference between being joyful and happy. You are happy when everything is going your way. Joy is not dependent on your situation. Joy comes from the confidence that God is working in your life to bring about his good plan for you. Joy gives you the strength to face the most challenging times in life with the assurance that God is in control. Joy comes springing up from within, no matter what is happening around you.

The source of Jesus’ joy was his uninterrupted fellowship with God the Father. That same source of joy is available to us today.

You can’t work on being joyful. You can’y say, “Today, I will be joyful.” Joy is something you receive. The source of joy is the Holy Spirit freely filling and working in your life. The second fruit of the Spirit is “joy.” The fruit of the Spirit grows in your life as a result of the Holy Spirit filling you.

Jesus’ prayer for you today is that you live in the same measure of Joy that He did as He walked on this earth. Imagine living in the joy of Jesus every day.

Today, live in the joy of Jesus, no matter what your situation.

Look at that promise again.

“I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.” – John 17:13

Make these confessions.

  • Jesus prays for me to receive His full measure of joy.
  • I have the joyful fruit of the Spirit growing in me.
  • No matter my situation, I have confidence God is working for my good.
  • Today, I receive all the joy Jesus prayed for me to receive.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen

The Christian life is a joy-filled life. Jesus walked in joy and invites you and me to live in the fulness of His joy today.

Oh Mildred what unimaginable heaviness you must feel for the loss of your daughter and the loss you must also feel for your dear grandchildren losing their mother. It would be so hard to feel any Joy or happiness. At least initially. But trust me those grandchildren will bring your smiles back on your face. Just the desire for you to feel the Joy of the Lord is evident that the Holy Spirt rests in you and Joy will flow from you. It’s ok to grieve. Jesus felt grief when he was feeling separated from His Father while. On the cross but His suffering and separation in turn brought everlasting life Him and to us and our loved ones. May that always bring you peace.
I have a dear friend who lost her son about 3 years ago. Actually it was my former stepson. He left 2 young boys that his grandmother is raising and they have helped bring life back into her. Never replaced her son but did bring her Joy and happiness. God will continue to comfort you and help you through many difficult days in different ways. Hang on to that Hope.
      Psalms 9:18
But God will never forget the needy; the hope of the afflicted will never perish.

Mildred, I am so sorry for your loss. I know when you go through such dark times, it’s hard. Sometimes the joy isn’t a bubbling feeling as much as a confidence that with God’s help you will make it through. I’m praying for you. – Billy

    Mildred,
Praying for you, I am sorry for the loss of your daughter. As you raise your two grandchildren May you see the Lord in them daily. God knows that your care for them will raise two wonderful children that will be welcomed to God’s kingdom through your love, leadership, and care.

    Blessings.
