Today’s Promise

Jesus is Your Shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
Psalm 23:1

Your Good Shepherd

When God is your shepherd, you don’t have to worry about anything. He will provide all you need.

We often think of Psalm 23 as a psalm for funerals and memorials. However, this psalm is really a psalm for living. It is all about living under the watchful care of the great Good Shepherd. This psalm describes what it’s like to have God lead and care for you.

Psalm 23 begins with a five-word promise, and that’s today’s focus. The Lord is my shepherd.

The Lord

The God you serve is the great Lord and creator of the universe. There is no one like Him. He is the Lord, the God Almighty. He is the King of kings. He is the beginning and the end. He holds creation together by His word, and He is above and beyond your imagination. No other god can compare to his beauty, glory, and strength. He is Lord above all rulers and powers.

God Is

When God appeared to Moses at the burning bush, He said He was the great “I Am.” God is. It’s as simple as that. He is all you need now and forever. Some people read the Bible like God is the great “I Was.” They see the wonders and miracles of the Bible and say, “That was then, and this is now.” God’s power and glory are as mighty today as they were when He spoke the universe into being.

Your Shepherd

This great creator God is your shepherd. He personally cares and watches over you. A shepherd knows all his sheep by name and personally attends to their needs.

Jesus called Himself the good shepherd. As the good shepherd, right now, He is caring for you. He knows where you are, what you worry about, and your deepest needs. Because Jesus is your good shepherd, you never have to fear because He is watching over you. He provides for your every need and leads you to places of rest.

When the Lord is your shepherd,

You know you are cared for. He will notice and help when you are weak, sick, or in need.

He knows you by name.

You know there will never be a need He won’t meet.

You know He loved you enough to lay down His life for you.

You know He will guide you in the way you should go.

Let’s look at that promise one more time.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. – Psalm 23:1

Make these confessions.

  • The Lord of all creation is my shepherd.
  • He is my protection, provision, and guide.
  • He is watching over every area of my life.
  • He knows my name, and I hear His voice.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Let this promise follow you throughout your day. The Lord is Your shepherd. He is caring for you today.

There is no question our schools are under attack. It seems every day, we hear of gun violence, bullying, and other dangers at our schools. Every day, our students face all sorts of temptations and challenges. That’s why I am proud to partner with the School Prayer Challenge. This little app on your phone allows you to join others in your community, praying for protection around our schools. The app lists every school in the United States. You can create a list of schools to pray for and then see how many others are praying for your schools. The goal of the School Prayer Challenge is to have people praying for every school in our nation. You can download the app for free in your app store or go to www.schoolprayerchallenge.org. Take the challenge to pray for schools across our country.
