Today’s Promise

Jesus Sent the Holy Spirit

But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
John 16:7

Jesus promised the disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit, who would comfort, teach and empower them with boldness to share the Gospel.

Walking with Jesus
Imagine what it must have been like to have walked with Jesus. Imagine seeing Jesus heal the sick, raise the dead, feed the five thousand, and even walk on water. Imagine being so close to Christ that you could literally reach out and touch Him.

Now imagine how the disciples felt when Jesus said He was going away, and His going away was to their advantage. How could His leaving be better for them? Jesus was right there in flesh and bone. How could anything be better than having Jesus right there with you?

What Could be Better?
Even for us, it’s hard to believe that anything could be better than seeing Jesus with our own eyes. However, Jesus promised that when He left, He would send someone better. He would send the Holy Spirit, who would comfort, teach, and empower. The Holy Spirit would literally live in us.

Jesus fulfilled this promise at Pentecost. Through the Holy Spirit, the disciples were transformed from a rag-tag group of followers to the Apostles. The Holy Spirit gave them such boldness that they took the Gospel to the then-known world. Today, that promise is still fulfilled in you and me.

The Holy Spirit in You
As a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit dwelling in You. The Holy Spirit has taken up residence in you and is teaching, leading, and empowering you.

I could spend hours talking about all the incredible things the Holy Spirit does in your life, but remember it began with this promise that Jesus would send the Holy Spirit to all who would follow Him.

What Jesus promised then, He fulfills in your life today. As a follower of Christ, you have the Holy Spirit indwelling and empowering you today.

Look at that promise again.

But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. – John 16:7

Make these confessions.

  • I have the Holy Spirit dwelling in me.
  • He is teaching me and providing all I need.
  • I have an intimate relationship with God through the Holy Spirit.
  • The Holy Spirit is empowering me to be all God has called me to be.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Just as Jesus promised, the Holy Spirit is filling, guiding, and empowering those who make Him their Lord and Savior. Because He indwells you, Jesus is closer than when He physically walked among us.

When I feel God’s presence with me.. It feels so peaceful and so beautiful. It gives me so much hope and joy.. I sometimes get depressed and overwhelmed by the stresses at work and responsibilities of being a nurse, wife, mother, daughter, and older sister. My health is also not good and I feel so tired and/or too busy to acknowledge His presence. Then I just want to do nothing.. But when I listen to gospel music, my hope and peace is uplifted as I feel the holy spirit comforting me.. I wish I cud be in His presence 24hours.. Cos that’s when I feel so much joy and happiness.

So thankful for the power of the Holy Spirit. So thankful that when Jesus died like he talks about leaving us the Holy Spirit to be with us. The indwelling power of the Holy Spirit is with us 24 hours all day! He gives us peace through his word. He sends songs to comfort our soul.s. The many responsibilities and cares are so heavy sometimes yet Jesus is walking with us always and when I Peter 5:7 comes he asked us to place all our cares on Him bc he cares for us. So thankful that once we receive Christ as our personal Savior he is with us all day every hour of the day empowering equipping guiding helping us all throughout the day. We just must be listening and our hearts clean befor Him. Beautiful devotional. Thankyou for this reminder!

The Holy Spirit has led me to help the homeless near Navigation in Houston, Texas. I used to just drive past them, thinking they were all lazy, drug addicts. Many have lost their homes due to rent increases or lost their jobs. I know the Holy Spirit does for me a lot of times, what I thought was impossible,, like fixing my car when it looked like it was a total loss or letting some cats be alive that should have been dead
He shows me mercy and grace all the time. I praise Him and thank Him
