Jesus the Wonderful Counselor
For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
This week we are looking at the promises related to the birth of Christ to see what we can learn from them today.
The Wonderful Counselor
When Isaiah prophesied about the coming Messiah, he described a leader who would rule over all nations and be called the Wonderful Counselor.
Let’s look at two important aspects of these two titles.
First, he describes the incredible power of the Messiah. When Jesus was born in a manger, He came as a humble servant. However, there is coming a day when He will return with all power and authority. All the nations will bow before Him and see His wonder and majesty. He will be the supernatural king who rules and reigns for all eternity.
This mighty king will also be filled with wisdom and compassion. Jesus never sought counsel from anyone but the Father. He never had a brainstorming session with the disciples asking for their suggestions or input. Since Jesus was God, He needed no one to counsel or advise Him.
Second, Jesus was the Wonderful Counselor. This coming king would be full of wisdom and compassion. When Jesus promised the coming of the Holy Spirit, He promised “another” counselor. The Holy Spirit would continue the work the Wonderful Counselor began. We can turn to the Wonderful Counselor whenever we need wisdom or guidance.
If you need direction today, call on the Wonderful Counselor.
If you need wisdom in a major decision, look to the Wonderful Counselor.
If your heart is broken, call out to the One who can bring you peace and comfort.
The Wonderful Counselor invites you to come and receive from Him all you need.
Look at the promise again.
For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6
Make this confession.
- As the Wonderful Counselor, Jesus reigns with supernatural power and authority.
- As the Wonderful Counselor, He brings wisdom and direction to my life.
- As the Wonderful Counselor, all nations will bow before Him.
- As the Wonderful Counselor, He is ready to bring comfort and peace to my hurting heart.
In Jesus’ name,
As the Wonderful Counselor, Jesus has the answer to every problem you face. He promises wisdom and guidance to all who call on Him.
