Today’s Promise

Little by Little God Gives the Victory
“I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may not become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land.”
Exodus 23:29-30
God Fights Our Battles
When God told the Children of Israel about the land, He would give them. He promised to drive out their enemies. God would send an angel to go before them and fight their battles for them. They would have victory over all their enemies. All they had to do was be obedient.
God said He would give them victory and allow them to possess the land, but He would give it little by little. If He gave them more than they could possess, the land would become desolate, and wild animals would take over. If He gave them the land all at once, they couldn’t handle it.
I Want it Now
If you are anything like me, I want all God has for me today. I don’t want to wait; I want it now. I want my spiritual battles won, my weaknesses to become strengths, and instant spiritual maturity. I want God to deliver on my prayers like Amazon delivers packages. I want everything God has for me, and I want it right now.
However, life and God rarely work that way. God knows that real transformation takes time. God only gives you what you can possess. Your walk with God is rarely a straight line upward. Usually, God shows you a new truth, then works to apply that truth into your life. Sometimes it’s two steps forward and one step back.
Little by Little
God works little by little in your life. He leads you one step at a time. When you disobey, He brings you back to Himself. He slowly works to make you just like Jesus. If He were to give you too much, too quickly, you might be overcome with pride or arrogance. You might begin thinking your victories were of your own making and act independently of God.
As God leads you step-by-step, He fights your battles, goes before you, and gives you victory. He transforms your life and renews your mind. He works in you to make you like Jesus. Little by little, He gives you everything you need to live the victorious Christian life and to possess all He has for you.
Look at that promise again.
“I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may not become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land.” – Exodus 23:29-30
Make these confessions.
- God goes before me today.
- God fights my battles for me.
- God leads me step-by-step.
- God works in my life little by little.
