Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 3:16
You Are the Temple of God
When you came to Christ, you became the temple of God. His presence dwells in you, and you bring His presence wherever you go. You are a temple of God. Let that promise sink in for a moment.
In the Old Testament, God dwelt in the temple at Jerusalem. The temple was an icon of God’s presence. Inside the temple was a special place called the Holy of Holies. In this chamber, the presence of God was made manifest. This room was so holy that only the High Priest could only enter it once a year. Even then, he entered with fear and trembling.
The Holy Spirit Dwells in You
When Jesus left, He promised to send the Holy Spirit to dwell in those who followed Him. God’s presence would move from the temple to the hearts of Christians.
When you became a Christian, the Holy Spirit took up residence in you. Your heart became the dwelling place of God. Your heart became the temple of the Most High God.
Imagine the Spirit of God living in you. Wherever you go, whatever you do, God’s spirit is there with you.
The temple was the symbol of God’s presence to the nation of Israel. It was a reminder that God was with them. The Holy Spirit in you is a reminder that God is with you.
The temple was also a place of worship. People gathered to lift their praise to the Lord. As His temple, you are a house of worship. Every area of your life should bring glory and honor to Christ.
The temple was a place of God’s manifest presence. God’s presence rested or abided in the temple. As His temple, His presence abides in you. You bring God’s presence into every situation of life. Wherever you go, God’s presence goes with you. In Christ, you are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. His presence in you had made you a temple of the living God.
Let’s review that promise again,
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? – 1 Corinthians 3:16
Confess this with me.
I am the temple of God.
God’s Holy Spirit dwells in me.
Wherever I go, I bring the presence of God with me.
I represent the presence of God to the world around me.
My life brings glory and honor to God in all I do.
In Jesus Name,
Jesus promised He would send the Holy Spirit to dwell in those who followed Him. God’s presence has moved from the temple to the hearts of Christians like you.
