Today’s Promise
My Faith Overcomes the World
1 John 5:4
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.
You Walk in Victory
As a Christian, you walk in victory, overcoming the world. You overcome temptation, sin, and every attack that comes against you.
Your victory doesn’t come from your personal discipline, hard work, or effort. Your victory comes through faith in Christ Jesus.
The same faith that saved you is the same faith that brings victory in your day to day living.
Every day you face the powerful enemy of the world. I’m not talking about the physical world; there is nothing wrong with mountains, rivers, or beautiful sunsets. I’m talking about the world system or culture. You live in a big bad world. The world is running away from God as fast as possible. The effects of sin and selfishness have wrecked the fallen world around you. If you aren’t careful, the world will suck you into its ways and seduce you to drift along with its rebellion toward God.
Faith is the Victory
How do you overcome this powerful enemy? Through your faith in Christ. You don’t have to wait until heaven to live the overcoming Christian life. Your victory was sealed on the cross, and God is actively fighting for you today.
Just as God fought for the Children of Israel as they entered the promised land, God fights for you. Victory has already been won on the cross; you just need to allow God to bring about that victory daily.
As a born again Christian, you have overcome the world. The Christian life is more than following a set of beliefs; it’s living as a new creation in Christ. You are not the old person you once were; you are new in Christ.
An overcomer is not a special class of Christians; it is the call of God for every believer. Through your faith, you have overcome the world.
Look at that promise again.
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith. – 1 John 5:4
Make these confessions.
- Through faith, I overcome the world.
- I will not allow the world to seduce me into its ways.
- Jesus sealed my victory on the cross.
- I don’t have to wait for heaven to experience the victorious Christian life.
