Today’s Promise

My Goal is to Please the Lord

2 Corinthians 5:9

Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.

Goals

There are some goals so worthy they demand to give our entire life in pursuit. Pleasing the Lord is one of them.

We all have goals. Some of us want to lose weight, and others want to save money, take a trip, or change jobs. There’s a lot of talk about goals, how to set them, and how to accomplish them. The last time I checked, there were over 40,000 products on Amazon related to goals.

Experts tell us to set big goals that inspire us. A goal should move us forward to becoming a better person and live a better life.

The Importance of Goals

Setting goals bring focus to our life. If you set a goal to lose 10 pounds, you evaluate everything you put in your mouth against that goal. If your goal is strong enough, even that slice of cheesecake can be set aside.

Goals set our lives into motion and help us get through the difficult times.

The One Goal

The Apostle Paul had one main goal; one ambition that was worthy of a lifetime pursuit. This one goal gave him the strength to overcome the incredible challenges he faced.

Most of us would have given up after being stoned with rocks, shipwrecked, beaten, and in prison. Paul’s one goal gave him the strength to overcome all these attacks.

To Please the Lord

He made it his ambition, his goal to please the Lord. That may sound like a simple statement, but for Paul, it served as the anchor for his soul during all the various difficulties and persecutions he suffered.

What a simple yet worthy Goal. I will please the Lord. Forget about everyone else and what they think. No matter what the situation, what life throws my way, or what I go through, my one goal is to please God.

Why not make this your goal today?

Just like that person on a diet, are you willing to evaluate everything that goes into your heart and comes out of your mouth as pleasing to the Lord?

Would you be willing to set aside every other goal for this one-life time pursuit?

What would change in your attitude, actions, or language if you made it your goal to please the Lord in all things?

Together, lets set a goal of pleasing the Lord. Pleasing Him in all we do, say, or think. Let’s please Him by staying connected to Him throughout our day, and walking in complete obedience to Him.

This one goal transcends our life here and reaches into eternity. Let’s join Paul in making our one ambition, our life goal to please the Lord in all things.

Look at that promise again.

Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. – 2 Corinthians 5:9

Make these confessions.

  • My life goal is to please the Lord.
  • Every other goal is placed second to that one life long goal.
  • When life gets hard, and I face difficulty, I will cling to this one goal.
  • I agree with the Apostle Paul that no matter what happens, my goal is to please the Lord.

In Jesus name,
Amen
