The Holy Spirit Says You Are His

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.
Romans 8:16

No Reason to Doubt

There is never a reason to doubt your salvation. What God began in you, He will complete. The Holy Spirit reminds you that you are a Child of God. When you doubt your salvation, you miss out on all God has for you.

Knowing you are a child of God is at the center of your walk with God. Until you are secure in your salvation, your Christian walk will be full of doubt, indecision, and fear. Over the years, I have spent time with many people who struggled with doubting their salvation. They asked, “Was my salvation experience real? Did I pray the right prayer? Was my faith strong enough? Was I sincere?” These and a thousand other questions haunt them.

You will never grow and thrive in your walk with God until you are sure of your salvation.

How You See Yourself

How you see your relationship with God impacts the way you live. If you see yourself as a poor, broken sinner powerless over your sin, you will live that way.

If you see yourself as a child of God, forgiven, an heir to the Kingdom of God, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, you will live that way.

If you have given your life to Christ, you have a powerful inward assurance that you are His child. This assurance isn’t found in positive thinking or hopeful dreaming but in a deep testimony of the Holy Spirit in you.

The Spirit Speaks to Your Heart

As a Christian, the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart that you are a child of God. He reminds you that your Father is the living, creator God.

Just as Jesus stands before the Father and claims you as His own, the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart that you are His.

The word “testifies” means telling what you have seen. When the Holy Spirit testifies that you are a child of God, He is speaking what He has seen.

In this chapter, the Apostle Paul had just finished talking about how we can cry out to God as “Daddy.” Now he says that the Holy Spirit reminds us that we are “His Children.”

You are a child of God not just by association but by a change of nature. God has adopted you as His child and given you a new nature in Him. You are not a slave but a child. You are part of the bride of Christ.

If you struggle with doubting your salvation, ask the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart and confirm that you are a child of God.

Look at that promise again.

Make these confessions.

  • I am a child of God.
  • The Holy Spirit bears witness that I am His child.
  • Through faith in Christ, I never doubt my salvation.
  • As a Child of God, I have confidence in prayer.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Just as Jesus presents us to the Father as His children, the Holy Spirit speaks to our hearts that we are His.

It’s interesting that you should post this today! I’m struggling with whether or not I measure up. Do I pray enough? Do I read my Bible enough? Do I surrender my heart to God as I ought? Thank you for this today. Please pray that The Holy Spirit will change my heart and that my acceptance in Christ is secure. It’s a deep wound.
