For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
This week we are looking at the promises related to the birth of Christ to see what we can learn from them today.
The Wonderful Counselor
Last week, we looked at this prophecy of Christ’s birth, but there is so much in this verse; we just had to look at it again.
As Isaiah prophecies about the coming Messiah, he describes a great ruler who will control the world’s governments. He also calls Him the Wonderful Counselor. There are two important aspects of this title.
First, he describes the incredible power of this ruler of all ages. When Jesus was born in a manger, He came as a humble servant. There is coming a day when He will return with all power and authority. All the nations will bow before Him and see His wonder and majesty. He will be the supernatural king who will reign and rule for all eternity.
This mighty king will also be one who is full of wisdom and compassion. Jesus never sought counsel from anyone but the Father. He never had a brainstorming session with the disciples asking for their suggestions or input. Since Jesus was God, He needed no one to counsel or advise Him.
Second, Jesus would be the Great Counselor. This coming king would not only be great and mighty but would give wisdom and compassion to all who followed Him. When Jesus promised the coming of the Holy Spirit, He promised “another” counselor. The Holy Spirit would continue the work the Wonderful Counselor began. Jesus offers wisdom and guidance for you and me today.
If you need direction, call on the Wonderful Counselor.
If you need wisdom in a major decision, look to the Wonderful Counselor.
If your heart is broken, call out to the One who can bring you peace and comfort.
The Wonderful Counselor invites you to come and receive from Him all you need.
Look at the promise again.
For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.– Isaiah 9:6
Make this confession.
As the Wonderful Counselor, He reigns with supernatural power and authority.
As the Wonderful Counselor, He brings wisdom and direction to my life.
As the Wonderful Counselor, all nations will bow before Him.
As the Wonderful Counselor, He is ready to bring comfort and peace to my hurting heart.
In Jesus name,
As the Wonderful Counselor, Jesus has the answer to every problem you face. He promises wisdom and guidance to all who call on Him.
