Today’s Promise

December 10, 2021

Thus far the Lord Has Helped Me

Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”
1 Samuel 7:12

When we take the time to remember God’s goodness and help in the past, it gives us the strength to face the problems and worries of today.

God is My Help

This promise shows up in the middle of an interesting story in the life of the Children of God. The prophet Samuel had called the people together for a time of repentance, prayer, and worship. When the Philistines heard of their meeting, they attacked the children of Israel.

God brought giant claps of thunder that confused and terrified the Philistines as the battle began. Because of God’s help, Israel won the victory. In response to God’s protection, Samuel built a monument to remind the people that up to this point, God had helped them.

Remember, God Help in the Past

When your faith is weak, remember, “thus far the Lord has helped you.” If God has helped you in the past, why would He not help you today?

Here’s a simple exercise to strengthen your faith. Take some time to write down every time God has helped you in the past. Get very specific, when did He answer a prayer or bring about that special provision? When were did you not know what to do, and God gave you direction? When did you feel hurt or worried, and God comforted you?

Now that you have completed your list read back through your list. Look at all the times God had provided, directed, and helped you. Keep that list near you. Maybe put it in your Bible or journal. When your faith falters, and your heart begins to fear, take out that list and reread it. If God has provided for you “thus far,” why would He not continue to do so?

Look at that promise again.

Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” – 1 Samuel 7:12

Make these confessions.

  • God is my help and strength.
  • Thus for the Lord has helped me.
  • God has helped me before. He will do it again.
  • When I remember His provision, my faith grows strong.

In Jesus Name,
Amen

The God you serve is faithful. When you stop and remember his work in your life, it builds your faith and trust in Him. Up until now, He has been your provision and help. Trust Him that He will continue to stand with you today and forever.

God has always been my help and strength in times of difficulty and challenges He has been my Rock and a Fortress. The Holy Spirit has given me the strength to rise up again when everything seemed lost. I believe He will most certainly help me even now that I look up to Him for His divine mercy. He is faithful. To God be the Glory Always.Thank You.Thank You.Thank You.
