Today’s Promise

When You Humble Yourself, God Exalts You

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.
1 Peter 5:6

God loves to exalt or lift up those who humble themselves before Him.

Promote Yourself

We live in a promote yourself, put your best foot forward world. Posts of new cars, new clothes, and perfect vacations fill our social media feeds. We stroke our egos by seeking the approval of others. Success coaches teach people how to push their way to the front of the crowd and focus attention on them.

However, God’s economy works differently. God says if you want to be promoted, humble yourself before God.

Don’t get me wrong. God is not against promotion. God loves to bless and promote His children. God promises to promote and exalt those who humble themselves before Him.

Exalt

The word “exalt” means to receive a high place of privilege and honor. God honors those who humble themselves before Him. When you humble yourself, you confess your need for Him. Humbling yourself before God is confessing that He is God and you are not. Humbling yourself is submitting your life, desires, and will to Him. It is offering yourself as a living sacrifice before God.

The problem occurs when we exalt ourselves. In my personal experience, I have found that when I take God’s job and exalt myself, He takes my job and humbles me. (By the way, God is very good at humbling me.)

Humble Yourself

When you humble yourself before God, you become a conduit of God’s power. He is free to work in and through your life.

God promises to exalt you in due season. This means when the time is right, He will exalt you. However, is always on His time frame.

Humbling yourself under the hand of God is allowing God to work in your life. Sometimes, when you feel the pressure of God’s hand on you, you resist. You fight back against God’s work in your life.

When you humble yourself, you release your life into His hands. You open the doors for God to bless your life. God will promote and exalt you as you humble yourself before Him.

Look at that promise again.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. 1 Peter 5:6

Make these confessions.

  • God blesses and exalts those who humble themselves before Him.
  • I will depend on God to promote and exalt me.
  • Right now, I humble myself before God the Father.
  • I won’t promote myself but I will allow God to exalt me.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen

When you humble yourself before God, He will lift you up. He exalts the humble because they put their complete faith and trust in Him.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Lifeway Research recently stated that 55% of pastors have experienced significant discouragement over the last several years.

The Barna research found that two out of 5 pastors have seriously considered leaving the ministry. Our pastors need our encouragement and prayer as never before.

Join me in encouraging one million Christians to pray for their pastors by going to our Facebook page at facebook.com/thedailypromise365 and sharing one of the Praying for Pastors posts. Let’s build a movement of Christians encouraging and praying for their pastors.

Humbling ourselves is realizing that we don’t have all the answers, but God does. It is making Him the Lord and master of our lives. It is not debasing or hating ourselves, but submitting to God’s work in our lives. – Billy
