Today’s Promise

Wisdom and Revelation Come From the Lord

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him.
Ephesians 1:17

Wisdom and Revelation

The Apostle Paul opens the book of Ephesians with a prayer for the church in Ephesus. Today, we are claiming that same prayer for ourselves.

In the first part of this prayer, Paul asks God to give us a spirit of wisdom. Wisdom and knowledge are two different things. A person may have lots of knowledge but little wisdom. Knowledge is about facts, while wisdom is about living. Wisdom helps you make good decisions that bring success and glory to God.

Wisdom

Wisdom knows how to live in line with the will of God. God gives wisdom to everyone who asks. The book of James says if anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask the Lord. The only source of true wisdom is the Lord. When Joshua took over Moses’ leadership position, God gave him a spirit of wisdom.

Revelation

Second, Paul prays we receive revelation in the knowledge of God. The only way you know God is through revelation. You can learn about God through reading the Bible, but it takes revelation from the Holy Spirit to really understand God. Only the Holy Spirit can move God’s word from your head to your heart. Some of the meanest Christians I’ve met knew the Bible, but they had never allowed the Holy Spirit to change their character.

The Holy Spirit

In John 16:14, Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would teach us all things. The Holy Spirit illuminates our hearts and minds to understand spiritual truth. Paul’s prayer is for the Holy Spirit to reveal the Lord Jesus to us.

Before you came to Christ, spiritual things were a mystery. You may have known the Bible, but you didn’t really know the Lord Jesus. Now that the Holy Spirit resides in you, He teaches and gives you wisdom. He reveals the Lord Jesus to you.

Look at that promise again.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him. – Ephesians 1:17

Make these confessions.

  • I have a spirit of wisdom.
  • The Holy Spirit is revealing Christ to me.
  • God is answering Paul’s prayer in my life today.
  • The Holy Spirit gives me wisdom and reveals Jesus to me.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

When you ask for wisdom, God always answers. As you listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, He will impart wisdom and reveal the Lord Jesus to you.
