Jesus is Your Advocate
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
1 John 2:1
Jesus is on Your Side
We all struggle with sin, but we have the promise that Jesus is on our side.
When you became a Christian, Jesus forgave your sin and gave you His rightness before God. He empowered you with the Holy Spirit so you could live a life of obedience to Him.
Although you may try to live a holy and obedient life, there are times when you fall into sin. Instead of feeling guilty and condemned for what you have done, remember Jesus is on your side. He stands between you and God the Father, and His blood forgives your sin.
Jesus is Your Advocate
Jesus is your advocate. An advocate is someone who comes alongside a person to help. An advocate is like a lawyer who pleads a case before a judge.
Jesus stands between you and God. Instead of God seeing your sin, He sees the righteousness of Jesus in you. Instead of condemning your sin, He sees the spilled blood of Jesus, that paid the price for all your sin. There is no condemnation or judgment because Jesus paid your sin debt in full.
Sure, when you sin, the Holy Spirit convicts you of your sin, but He doesn’t condemn you. He works in your life to bring you back to God. He wants to restore your relationship with God.
When you sin, Jesus is on your side. He stands and pleads your case before God the Father. His blood covers your sin so that all God sees is Christ’s rightness in you.
Look at that promise again.

Make these confessions.
- God calls me to live a holy life.
- If I sin, I have Jesus to stand before God on my behalf.
- My sin has been forgiven and removed by the blood of Jesus.
- Jesus is my advocate before the Father.
In Jesus’ name,

Jesus is your advocate before God the Father. You can come to God free of guilt and shame because of the love of Christ. His righteousness has become yours.
